Arlene de la Mora

I received my Ph.D. in psychology from Iowa State University in 2004. My major area of study was in Social Psychology with an emphasis in health psychology. I have been working as a researcher with the Psychology in Education Research Lab (PERL) since 2003. My training as a social psychologist is a great match for my work at PERL. It allows me to use my skills in research design, measurement and evaluation to examine the impact of school interventions aimed at increasing student achievement in math, reading, and science. This is particularly exciting, in light of the challenges presented by No Child Left Behind mandates.

Over the past two years, I have been the primary investigator on the Iowa Reading First project. However, as a researcher at PERL, I am involved with all of the projects the lab is involved with. An enjoyable aspect of being a researcher at PERL is working with and supervising undergraduate and graduate research assistants.

On the personal side, I grew up in Los Angeles and moved to Iowa in 1994 to attend graduate school. I have two daughters, my oldest lives in California with her husband and my youngest daughter lives with me and my husband in Ames.
